For the first time in four years, Lethbridge reported zero fatal accidental drug poisonings.
According to the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System, in November 2024, Lethbridge reported zero fatal accidental drug poisonings, this is the first month the city has gone without reporting a death since November 2020.
However, in both December and January, there was one fatal accidental drug poisoning reported in the city, both connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids.
From January to December of 2024 there were 42 lives reportedly lost to accidental drug poisonings, significantly down from the 119 reported in 2024. This is the fewest lives in the city since 2019, when there were 20 reported deaths from accidental drug poisonings.
