Changes set for Coalhurst’s Miners Park Campground in 2026

Coalhurst council has given the thumbs up to operational changes at the Miners Park campground. Starting in 2026, the campground will transition into an exclusive rentable space for community members and groups.

Officials say the move was approved to help reduce operational costs and “better align the campground’s use with local needs”.

The decision follows direction from Town Administration to explore long-term options for the campground and sanitary dump. Suggestions included selling, contracting out, or integrating them into Coalhurst’s Recreation Master Plan.

The sanitary dump was subsidized for $2,900 by the Town.

The campground, meanwhile, broke even but officials say it required “considerable staff time and resources to maintain”.

For the changes next year, an online reservation system will be set up and a keyless, code-access system will be installed for washroom facilities to limit public use and reduce maintenance and cleaning needs. The cost of that upgrade is estimated at $1,300.

For the 2025 season, the Miners Park campground operations will continue as they have been, on an open to the public, first come-first serve basis.
