Emergency department in Fort Macleod temporarily closed Thursday

Residents in and around Fort Macleod are advised that the emergency department at the Fort Macleod Health Centre will be temporarily closed Thursday.

Alberta Health Services says the closure is due to a lack of clinical personnel.

The temporary closure will be on from 8 a.m. Thursday, with the department set to reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday to provide 24-hour service.

Nursing staff will stay on-site to help with long-term care patients.

Individuals can call 911 if they have a medical emergency, with EMS calls re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. Patients needing care can access emergency services at the Pincher Creek Health Centre, the Cardston Health Centre, the Claresholm Community Health Centre or at Chinook in Lethbridge.

Patients are reminded to call Health Link at 811, available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

Anyone needing non-emergency medical care can also call their family physician.
