Annual road milling and paving project starts in Lethbridge this week

Construction season is well underway in Lethbridge, with the City’s Transportation Operations department starting its annual road milling and paving program.

The annual process to improve road conditions is done in phases, which the City says helps decrease costs and keeps the flow of traffic moving.

It is broken into the following three steps:

  • Tree pruning and concrete repairs (if necessary): Before road construction starts, crews might be present to fix curbs and sidewalks and prune trees along the roadway. This is done before milling and paving to keep the newly paved road smooth and intact.
  • Milling: Crews remove the existing asphalt from a section of road to prepare it for new asphalt.
  • Paving: Crews apply new asphalt to create a smooth driving surface for residents and motorists.
