A Spruce Grove resident has been charged after an incident in southern Alberta.Â
The Crowsnest Pass RCMP says at around 6:15 p.m. on May 24, police responded to a rural property on Highway 22. The response was connected to a suspicious vehicle that was reportedly stolen from Blairmore earlier that same day.Â
Mounties say it was spotted leaving the area of Highway 22 and was later recovered in Lundbreck. The RCMP adds the man was seen leaving the vehicle on foot. Â
Shortly after midnight on May 25, a Citizens on Patrol member reported seeing a suspicious person who matched the description of the driver of the alleged stolen truck.Â
The Piikani Nation RCMP, Pincher Creek RCMP and Police Dog Services were called in to help arrest the suspect.Â
Police add that a drone was also used to maintain a visual on the man and a K9 unit was sent out to catch the suspect, who RCMP says was hiding in a stack of hay bales.Â
Russell Edward Dick, a 38-year-old from Spruce Grove, faces the following charges:Â
- Possession of property obtained by crimeÂ
- Resisting arrestÂ
- Possession of break-in instrumentsÂ
- Driving while prohibitedÂ
- Possession of methamphetamine Â
The RCMP adds that multiple arrest warrants were executed on behalf of the Edmonton Police Service, for charges including mischief: danger to life; mischief: danger to property, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.Â
Following a release hearing, Dick was held in custody and is set to be in Fort Macleod court on May 29.
