Two week search for missing boater on Lake Newell comes to an end

The body of a Calgary man has been pulled from Lake Newell near Brooks 14 days after the boater was reported overdue.

The 45 year old left the Kinbrook Island Provincial Park boat launch and headed south on the evening of October 5th but never returned.

A large multi-agency search took place the following day where the boat was found broadside against an island in the lake.

All lifejackets were inside the boat and the man’s shoes, a jacket and a vest were found floating nearby.

Brooks RCMP say the two week search for the man’s body came to an end this past Saturday with the use of a remotely operated underwater vehicle.

An autopsy is expected to take place at the Calgary Medical examiner’s office.
