Lethbridge and surrounding area residents will notice hazy conditions Wednesday.Â
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an Air Quality Warning for the city and region, due to wildfire smoke from fires burning around the province.Â
The agency says people more likely to be affected by wildfire smoke are those 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, as well as individuals with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.Â
You are advised to avoid strenuous activities outdoors and overall, limit your time being outside during these conditions. Â
Environment Canada says you could experience mild and common symptoms like eye, throat and nose irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pain, or a severe cough.Â
When inside, the agency suggests that windows and doors stay closed as much as possible. Officials add during warmer conditions; it is still important to prioritize keeping cool while protecting your indoor air from wildfire smoke.Â
The agency advises using a clean, good quality air filter in your ventilation system and/or a certified portable air cleaner that can filter fine particles.Â
All weather alerts are available at the Environment Canada website.Â
