Lethbridge Police Chief addresses public concerns over string of serious crimes

Lethbridge Police continue to investigate a handful of serious crimes that have occurred in the city over a very short period of time.

Shots were fired on the west side (resulting in the arrests of two people) there was a kidnapping at knife point, an attempted car jacking, a robbery and more than one report of an attempted child abduction.

Chief Scott Woods says police are making progress on these files and if residents witness anything else suspicious, to call them.

He warns the public “please do not take matters into your own hands. If you come across something, don’t put your family or yourself at risk. As we’ve seen the trend fairly recently, a lot of these offenders are armed with knives and other types of weapons coupled with some pretty irrational and aggressive behaviour.”

However, Woods says he has the utmost confidence in the officers in the LPS and its investigative teams, adding this recent crime wave is not an epidemic within the city but situations that will hopefully have some closure fairly soon.
