Community advised of vandalism impacting Legacy Park irrigation system

The city wants to raise awareness of vandalism impacting the irrigation system at Legacy Park.

According to City of Lethbridge officials, there have been questions asked about whether or not the sprinklers were running over the weekend during the rain. Officials say the city’s irrigation team will either adjust or turn off the watering during the rain, but there have been people who have broken into the irrigation control boxes to turn the water back on; including over the past weekend.

In a statement officials explain this wastes water and damages the system, leading to the need for system repairs.

“To help stop this, we’re adding lock boxes to better protect the controls,” the statement reads. “We want to reassure the community that we take water use seriously and follow proper procedures.”

The public is being asked to report any suspicious activity to 311.
