Lethbridge man facing several charges in relation to serious crime spree

Lethbridge Police have charged a 40 year old man in connection to a series of incidents over the past few days including an assault, kidnapping, attempted car jacking, and a robbery.

Late Sunday night (Oct. 20) a 41 year old man at a home along 5th avenue north told police he got into an argument with an acquaintance who then attacked him with a machete.

About ten minutes later, a man parked in front of the north side McDonald’s was car jacked by a man with a machete and forced to drive around the city and out to the Blood Reserve where he was left on the side of the road.

Two nights later (Oct. 22) police were called about a man and a woman yelling at a man wielding multiple weapons in the middle of a south side street and later an attempted car jacking involving a man brandishing a small sword.

The next morning, police were called to a report of a woman who’d been attacked while walking back from the bus stop. A man allegedly threw her to the ground and demanded her cell phone.

The description of the suspect was the same in all incidents and by late Wednesday morning (Oct. 23) he had been identified by police and taken into custody.

40 year old Cory Ray Williams of Lethbridge has been charged with kidnapping, two counts of assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, uttering threats, robbery, attempted kidnapping, break and enter and commit theft of motor vehicle, and attempted robbery.

He remains in custody to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court next Thursday, Oct.31.
