From now until Oct. 1, the City of Lethbridge Parks and Cemeteries team has brought back its popular Parks and Playground Passport.
Parks Community Coordinator Ashley Walker says this year marks the passport initiative’s nineth year. “It’s a fun family-friendly way to get outside, explore the city and visit some playgrounds and parks never visited before.”
The passport program is through a partnership with the Parks and Cemeteries department and Lethbridge Plays.
It’s a scavenger hunt-style adventure, Walker explains, that invites families to visit eight different parks and playgrounds across Lethbridge.
“Once they arrive, they’ll answer a question about the space. Once the passport is complete, it can be sent in and entered to win some great prizes,” Walker adds.
Year over year, Walker notes, the feedback has been positive about the initiative. “It’s heartwarming actually. In May, we start receiving calls or 3-1-1 does about if the passport is coming back this year. I think families look forward to doing it.”
Participants can also drop completed passports off at City Hall at one of the cashiers.
It’s a great opportunity and excuse to get outside and be active, Walker says. “And create some great memories.”
“We have a lot of grandparents that do it with their grandkids if they’re looking for something to do or maybe grandparents are visiting from outside of Lethbridge or their grandkids are. It’s a great way for them to fill up a day or a weekend.”
Passports are available online or get a copy by visiting the cashiers at City Hall.
Submitting your passport enters you into a draw to win prizes, including family passes for swimming, skating, Fort Whoop-Up and Galt Museum, a Helen Schuler Nature Centre T-shirt and Lethbridge Hurricanes vouchers and swag.
