Police in Lethbridge have charged a 35-year-old man in connection with an alleged sexual assault earlier this month.
The Lethbridge Police Service says on June 19, officers responded to a report that a 50-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver. She told LPS that after being driven home, she was assaulted by the driver before she left the vehicle. According to the report, the driver called the woman multiple times, then went back to her home later that day and repeatedly knocked on the door, which led to the woman calling 911.
As part of the investigation, the victim reported that earlier this year, after receiving a ride from the save driver, he offered to help carry her groceries. Instead of leaving them at her door, the woman says the man entered her home without permission and used the washroom before leaving.
Sujeepan Sathiyananthan, a 35-year-old from Lethbridge, faces charges of sexual assault and unlawfully in a dwelling. The suspect has been released from custody with conditions to not contact the victim. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 8, 2025.
