Photo scavenger hunt for kids and dads returns July 19

Lethbridge Family Centre’s Dad and Kids Photo Scavenger Hunt returns July 19 from 3-6 p.m. There are still spots available, and registration is required.

According to organizers, this year’s all ages scavenger hunt features a brand-new route and exciting new locations. “Team up with your kids, drive around Lethbridge, and snap photos at surprise mystery spots for a chance to win great prizes.”

Organizers note participants will need a vehicle, a Smartphone or digital camera and a “sense of adventure and excitement.”

Family Centre Executive Director Maral Kiani Tari says one of the biggest gaps Family Centre has identified has been support and resources that may be available for fathers and father figures. “In the last number of years, we’ve offered programming for father involvement, as well as events.”

One of the events organized annually has been the scavenger hunt, Kiani Tari notes. “It’s a great opportunity for fathers and father figures to do a fun activity and get that connection with their children of all ages, and be able to have a unique experience together.”

Building resiliency between the family unit is important to Family Centre.

“And building the supportive network a child needs to thrive in a healthy way,” Kiani Tari adds.

It’s an incredible opportunity to see how many fathers and father figures are signing up for Family Centre events and programming, says Kiani Tari. “Most of the time our events sell out, which is incredible, and we run out of room.”

The Saturday Me and My Dad program has been running for many years, and it goes through ebbs and flows during the year, but it’s always active.

“We have a new program called Super Dads, Super Kids. Depending on what time of the year it’s being offered, it does get full,” Kiani Tari says. “We’ve done a number of different events throughout the year.”

Other events have included a woodworking workshop, drumming, gym time and clay making. “They all essentially sell out and spots are always full,” notes Kiani Tari. “Uptick is huge. We’re hoping the scavenger hunt will have that, as well.”

The fun starts at the Interfaith Food Bank Garden at 3 p.m., where everyone will get hunt instructions and a location list upon arrival. The event will also feature games, prizes and a barbecue.
