RCMP investigating suspicious death of Calgary teen near Cardston

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a suspicious death after a 16-year-old was found deceased in southern Alberta.

Police say on Friday, July 4, members of the Cardston RCMP found the girl, later identified as Calgary resident Jordyn “Rylie” Dines, in an abandoned vehicle about 1.5 kilometres west of Glenwood. The RCMP says the circumstances surrounding her death have been deemed suspicious, so the Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

Police say Dines was last seen at about 2:45 p.m. at Chinook Centre in Calgary on Friday, July 3. The RCMP is now asking for help to determine her activities after this time until she was found in the Glenwood area. Glenwood is just over 20 minutes northwest of Cardston.

The RCMP reports that the vehicle the teen was found in was a teal 2009 Toyota Camry with black steel rims.

At the time, the vehicle had not been reported as stolen, but police later learned through the registered owner that it had been missing since the morning of Friday, July 4.
