Golden Anniversary celebrations set for LSCO block party

At the end of July, the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization is set to celebrate their Golden Anniversary in block party style.

LSCO Executive Director Kaitlynn Weaver says the event which will be held on the Civic Centre track field will have something for everyone. The event will include live music and a community garage sale people can take part in for free. There will also be a free barbecue a 70s-themed fashion show, a mime, line dancing and a blacksmithing forge demo.

“A lot of the ideas that came for the event are things that we have looked in the past through LSCO’s archives to see what they’ve done in the past. So a fashion show, they used to have them throughout the year to celebrate spring or fall,” Weaver says. “We thought we would bring that back, but with a 70s theme. So we have New West Theatre who’s providing some costumes for people to put on and walk the runway.”

By hosting the forge demonstration, Weaver says it is a throwback to years past in connection to the LSCO wood shop and the leather work that used to be done there.

“We’re really excited to kind of bridge that historical piece of like what used to happen and then bring it to the present and then look forward to the future.”

Weaver adds the event is not just celebrating the organization’s anniversary but also celebrating being a space where people can come and connect with anybody.

“This space is like a resource hub and a community center hub for the community, for seniors and others.”

The event will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Centre track field. More information about the anniversary event can be found on the LSCO website.
