Lethbridge’s lone government MLA asking for an update this week on his government’s review into supervised consumption sites (SCS).
A panel went around the province back in September, including a stop in Lethbridge, to gather feedback from residents, business owners, and others as to the impacts of the drugs sites and a report is expected likely within the next month or so.
Lethbridge East MLA Nathan Neudorf says the issues of drugs and crime are big ones here and he wants to make sure Lethbridge gets the supports it needs. “I still receive numerous letters from concerned residents. I believe there’s a petition coming forward that I’ll be tabling next week. So if this (issue) isn’t going away in Lethbridge, which we don’t expect it to, it won’t be going away for me either. I will continue to advocate and make sure that voice is heard in the house.”
Minister Jason Luan responded to Neudorf saying the UCP government is committed to getting those Albertans into recovery, but will not sacrifice other parts of a community while doing this to help others.
“Unlike the previous government which seems to be focused entirely on the one-pillar approach and failed to consult businesses,” says Luan. “We are going to do it differently. Our approach will be fair, focused, and compassionate.”Â
Neudorf meanwhile, says it’s important Lethbridge residents know soon what the plan is, so we can start moving forward with some solutions.
