Lethbridge Police charge Calgary man in connection with child luring and assault

WARNING: The following story contains details that may be disturbing to some.

A Calgary man has been charged by the Lethbridge Police Service in connection with an alleged child luring incident and sexual assault.

The LPS says on April 23, 2025, officers responded to a report of a missing 12-year-old girl.

They say the investigation found that the child had been picked up a day earlier near her home in Lethbridge, by a man who had allegedly befriended her online.

The LPS says the man took the child to a residence he had rented for one night, where he reportedly sexually assaulted her multiple times before leaving the city.

The rental property was found by police, with a search leading to the seizure of physical evidence, according to the LPS. Additionally, police obtained video surveillance images of the man while he was in Lethbridge, as well as the online communications he had with the victim, which the LPS says contained sexually explicit images.

With assistance from the Calgary Police Service, the suspect was arrested at his home in Calgary on September 10. Police say a search led to additional evidence being seized.

Jhanger Ali Sameer, 26, is charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, possession of child pornography, and two counts of child luring. Sameer has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be in Lethbridge court on September 11.

Police say they have evidence to believe this incident was not isolated, and there may be more victims. The LPS has released a photo of the suspect, who they say may be known as ‘Sam’ online.
