Westside residence suffers severe damage in overnight fire

A west Lethbridge residence suffered significant damage due to an overnight fire.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to the blaze on McGill Boulevard West at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12. Members from four stations were sent out after a 911 call reported a fire on the second floor of the residential building.

Officials say responders found heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-story window. The fire was brought under control and did not spread to neighbouring homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and a damage estimate has not been provided, although damage has been described as ‘severe’.

No injuries were reported.

LFES is reminding residents to test their smoke alarms every month, noting that working smoke alarms provide an early warning that can save lives.
