LSCO to celebrate 50 years with Open House Saturday

Celebrating 50 years, the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization or LSCO is hosting an Open House this Saturday.

“This Open House is about celebrating 50 years of LSCO serving the community, while giving people a chance to experience the wide-range of opportunities available,” says Executive Director Kaitlynn Weaver. “From classes and groups to support services, there is something for everyone at LSCO.”

Weaver notes the Open House offers community members an opportunity to see a week’s worth of what’s happening at the LSCO – all in one day, over the course of a couple of hours. “We’re going to have guided facility tours every half hour. We’re going to have free demo classes for things like line dancing, yoga and gentle exercise and people can eat at the diner.”

The diner will be open Saturday too, which normally isn’t, adds Weaver. “We’re also bringing back Dumbo ears, so the delicious Whoop-Up Days treats.”

LSCO clubs and groups, including the Amateur Radio Club, Genealogy, Karaoke, Computer Club, Badminton and Table Tennis will also be on-hand to showcase what they do, answer questions and welcome new members.

According to Weaver, everyone is welcome to stop by the Open House. “If you’re a senior looking for something to do or maybe there’s a family who wants to experience the LSCO and what it can offer or maybe you can refer somebody like a grandparent to it.”

The LSCO, Weaver explains, is a one-stop shop for programs, services, recreation and socializing for folks 55-plus. “We have everything from creative arts programming to exercise to pickleball to a diner that’s open to the public. We kind of have something for everybody.”

There’s also quilting, a wood shop and a full computer lab. “It’s just a place that has it all,” says Weaver.

Extra support is also available for people who might need a hand understanding benefits paperwork or CPP. “We also have our social workers who provide support and system navigation for free.”

The Open House runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free to attend and open to all. More information on the event can be found at lethseniors.com/openhouse.
