Coaldale council candidate hopes to continue to give back to community

A local politician hopes to represent the community and serve a fourth term on Coaldale Town Council.

Jacen Abrey says he is running for re-election because Coaldale is his home. Abrey states he and his wife raised their four daughters in Coaldale, and there are now three generations of their family living in Coaldale.

“Over the past twelve years on Council, I have worked hard to listen to residents, strengthen public safety, and advocate for the health services and amenities families depend on,” Abrey says. “With important projects underway and new opportunities on the horizon, I want to continue serving our community with honesty, transparency, and a steady voice at the council table.”

Abrey says having a background in emergency services, provincial government, and community leadership has helped him create skills for crisis management, budgeting, collaboration, and policy development.

“On Council, that experience has helped me advocate for physician recruitment, the return of urgent care services, fiscal responsibility, and new recreation and infrastructure projects.”

“Moving forward, I plan to build on that foundation by continuing to work closely with residents and regional partners, ensuring Coaldale grows responsibly while keeping taxes low and services strong.”

He explains that his previous work experience has helped him balance time, priorities and responsibilities. The time I devote to this role is simply part of my commitment to giving back to the community that has given so much to me. He adds that the time he puts into council is part of his commitment to giving back to the community.

“Serving on Council is a significant commitment, but it’s one I take seriously. I have built a routine that allows me to prepare fully for meetings, be accessible to residents, and remain engaged with regional and provincial partners — all while ensuring I am present for my family.”

If re-elected, Abrey says any major projects brought forward will be approached with a balance of vision and responsibility.

“My approach is to carefully review proposals, consult with residents, and weigh both the long-term benefits and financial impacts.”

He adds that as Coaldale grows, it is important to invest in infrastructure, recreation, and health services. However, he adds that those investments need to be made in a way that protects taxpayers and ensures transparency. If re-elected, he says he will make informed decisions to strengthen the community today and prepare it for the future.
