Youth groups sought for Lethbridge’s Christmas Tree Collection Program

Youth groups in Lethbridge are invited to apply for the annual Christmas Tree Collection Program.

For the last three decades, the City has partnered with a local youth group to raise funds for said group, all while helping residents properly dispose of their Christmas trees and diverting them from the landfill.

Trees that are recycled get mulched or composted for future use in Lethbridge’s parks or during giveaway events.

Organizations whose members are 18 and under can submit their proposal to be involved by December 1. Proposals have to include three examples of previous successful fundraising events or other volunteer experiences.

The City says smaller groups who might not meet the requirements on their own can collaborate with others and apply together as one single group.

The one-day tree collection blitz across Lethbridge is scheduled for January 10, 2026, with a smaller sweep of the city for any missed collection set for January 17.

Groups will deliver the trees to designated drop-off sites.

The City says since the program started, over 1.5 million kilograms (or about 95,000 Christmas trees) have been diverted from the local landfill.

Interested groups can find more information about submitting a proposal on the City of Lethbridge website.
