Residents can try “Skating in the Square” this week as part of Downtown Lethbridge’s Heart of the Holidays initiative.
Free public skating on a synthetic ice surface will be available from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm every day until Saturday (Nov. 23).
Urban Revitalization Manager, Andrew Malcolm, says Festival Square on 6th Street South was meant to be used for purposes like this and he hopes people come out and enjoy it.
“It’s something we’ve heard about year after year in public engagement sessions,” says Malcolm. “People want that opportunity to skate outdoors in the winter time here and we’ve heard we can’t do it because of the chinooks, so thanks to a partnership with the Lethbridge Sport Council, they provided us with this artificial ice surface.”
Malcolm says “Skating in the Square” will also be available on select days in December and if successful, more dates could be added.
