Border agents seize over 1,000 kilograms of drugs at Coutts border

Border services agents at Coutts say they seized a combined 1,010 kilograms of drugs from three commercial trucks at the end of last year.

The Canada Border Services Agency says on November 26, 2025, officers examined a commercial truck that was carrying a load of electrolyte beverages going to Calgary. With help from CBSA Detector Dog Services, officers say they found 461 kilograms of cocaine and 43 kilograms of suspected heroin.

Additionally, CBSA reports that officers found one gram of opium hidden in the cab of the truck. CBSA says the driver was arrested for smuggling.

Two incidents in December have also been reported. Officials say on December 2, officers searched a commercial truck hauling an empty truck trailer. CBSA says officers found 300 kilograms of cocaine, as well as 400 grams of suspected dode (opium poppies) in the cab of the truck. Like in November’s incident, the driver was arrested for smuggling.

On December 18, with help from CBSA’s Detector Dog Service, officers searched a commercial truck the agency says was carrying a declared load of vacuum parts travelling to Calgary. During their search, officers reportedly found methamphetamine hidden inside. CBSA states that a total of 206 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized, with the driver arrested for smuggling.

The agency says in all three cases, the drivers and the seized contraband were transferred to the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region.
