Ready, set, go: Coaldale 5K Family Fun Run set to support local causes

Preparations are underway for the annual Coaldale 5K Family Fun Run.

The event is on April 18 and 2026 marks the run’s 15-year anniversary.

“It’s a community-wide event, mostly for Coaldale, but we love to see faces from all over the place,” said event coordinator Emma de Boer.

She explained that the run aims to raise awareness of health and fitness while bringing the community together. “It’s always for charity,” de Boer added.

She said $2 from every entry will go toward Rehoboth Christian Ministries, which offers different support services for people with disabilities.

The coordinator said it is anticipated that about 600 runners will participate, which can mark a significant donation to the cause.

“We’re super excited to be able to donate to them, and we’re supporting two [additional] causes this year,” de Boer said.

She explained that donations from the run will support new baseball cages and equipment at the Shift Community Recreation Centre, and additions to a playground project on the east side of the town.

“We’re helping toward, specifically, their soccer nets and picnic tables, and we’re hoping to see some action on that in the near future,” de Boer said.

Those interested in participating can register online or drop off physical registration forms at the Coaldale Christian School and Runner’s Soul in south Lethbridge.

Age categories span from six-years-old to 70 and older, and participants can choose to walk or run the five kilometre path, which begins at Coaldale Christian School.

On April 17, the day before the run, participants can pick up their event package at Coaldale Christian School between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., with de Boer noting organizers would accommodate same day pickup on run day, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., “but everyone is greatly encouraged to come on Friday, or have a friend pick up for them”.

“If you come on the Friday to pick up, then you’re entered to win a year pass to the Shift Rec Centre,” de Boer added.

The deadline to register is April 16.

More details are available on the event webpage.
