Lethbridge man charged with breaching lifetime prohibition order

A 47-year-old man is facing multiple counts of breaching a lifetime prohibition order after being released from custody at the beginning of the month.

According to Lethbridge Police Service, the man was released May 1 at 7 a.m. after serving four years for offences including sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, sexual exploitation and uttering threats.

Police said at approximately 11:45 a.m. the same day, officers saw him at the Lethbridge Public Library accessing a social media platform to view images of children, in violation of a lifetime prohibition order.

The order was issued following his conviction for sexually assaulting and exploiting two young girls in 2021 and 2022. It prohibits attending any community centre, using the internet or other digital networks except under court-approved conditions and using social media applications designed to connect with strangers.

The Lethbridge man is charged with four counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 6.
