If Lethbridge walls could talk, what tales they would tell.
This summer, the Lethbridge Historical Society and local historian Belinda Crowson bring back the Hidden History of Lethbridge Walking Tours.
The second season is designed for tourists, visitors, and locals and provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in Lethbridge’s past.
Returning this year are the Shadows of Lethbridge: Historic Murders & Crime Walking Tour and the London Road Tours.
A few new tours have also been created, including Whiskey & Watering Holes: Prohibition, Breweries and Bars, as well as a walking tour of the Senator Buchanan neighbourhood.
Crowson encourages everyone to come for a walk and discover the fun stories of Lethbridge, and see a side of the city you never knew existed.
“I’ve added a couple of tours. We’ll go with this series until the end of August. In September and October, we’ll have a new series called the Deathbridge series with flashlight cemetery tours and ghost tours. But these ones are more historic, but still hopefully fun,” Crowson noted.
According to Crowson, participants will also get a chance to get to know more about the neighbourhoods of Hardieville and 13 Street North, “as well as a chance to delve into some stories.”
There was a wonderful response to last year’s tours, Crowson added. “On some of the tours, we had up to 70 people. It was wonderful to see people coming. We’re hearing great things.”
“We’re being asked to get them up on Expedia and places like that, so we can attract tourists to them. I think there’s growth to it. With the fall tours, we’re even looking at partnering with the Playgoers of Lethbridge,” said Crowson. “It’ll be our historic tours. So completely accurate, but they’ll be doing some of the guiding, so we can offer more tours.”
The tours will run most Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings until the end of August.
Information on the tours can be found online at lethbridgehistory.org.
