Lethbridge Public Library launches Plan of Service survey

Lethbridge Public Library encourages you to share your experiences on library services and help guide its upcoming Strategic Plan.

You’re invited to provide input on current and future library services through the Library’s Plan of Service survey until Aug. 7.

Feedback gathered will play a key role in developing the Library’s 2027–2031 Plan of Service.

The Plan of Service is the Library Board’s strategic plan and serves as a roadmap for the delivery of library services over a five-year period.

According to the City of Lethbridge, the plan is developed through a community needs assessment and includes the goals, strategies and objectives that will guide service priorities.

“Libraries grow and change with the communities they serve,” said CEO Terra Plato. “Each response we receive will help us make thoughtful decisions that make sure our services continue to meet the needs of Lethbridge for years to come.”

This also supports City Council’s Strategic Plan by aligning municipal systems and advancing priorities connected to a culturally vibrant city.

According to Plato, the survey is important for a couple of reasons, including that it’s required by library legislation to implement one. “We need to create a Plan of Service, which is our Strategic Plan, every three to five years. It needs to be based off a current community needs assessment. This is a part of that needs assessment process.”

Plato explained the survey is also important because the library is in Lethbridge to serve the community.

“The idea of this is to help us determine what current community needs are, see emerging trends and what opportunities might be out there for us to support Lethbridge over the next five years,” Plato noted. “It’s really important we hear from a wide swath of the community about what’s important to them, so we can prioritize our services and ensure we’re providing services and resources relevant and impactful to the community.”

The Lethbridge Public Library wants to hear from Library users and people who don’t use the Library.

“All that information will be compiled, and we’ll pull out the themes and useful pieces of information we get from it. That will be used by the Library Board to determine our strategic goals over the next five years,” Plato added.

Anyone who completes the survey can enter a draw to win a $100 gift card.

“We’re hoping we get as many people answering the survey, as possible,” said Plato.

The survey can be completed online or in-person at any Lethbridge Public Library location.
