Commercial fire contained before spreading to nearby buildings

The quick response by Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews is being credited with preventing a commercial structure fire from spreading to nearby buildings Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the 1400 block of 2 Avenue S. at about 1 p.m. after employees at a neighbouring business spotted the fire and called 911.

Twenty-four firefighters from four stations responded. The first crews on scene found an active fire at the rear of the building and immediately began suppression efforts.

Crews contained the fire before it spread deeper into the building or threatened nearby properties, the department said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
