Over 60 violation tickets issued by LPS during weekend traffic blitz

Police officers in Lethbridge were kept busy this weekend, as officers removed one reportedly impaired driver from local roads and issued 67 tickets.

The action was part of an ongoing targeted enforcement project.

The initiative takes place annually during the summer months and focuses on high-risk and nuisance driving behaviours.

In addition to the tickets, officers issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction warning. The LPS said officers apprehended one suspended driver and another who was reportedly operating a vehicle without insurance, which resulted in the vehicle being towed.

The LPS said during the enforcement projects, drivers in Lethbridge can expect to see an increased presence in members of the Traffic Response Unit. Officials said they target behaviours like speeding, stunting, racing, excessive noise, equipment violations and other aggressive and illegal forms of driving. The targeted work is on top of regular traffic enforcement.

Anyone who spots suspected violations or high-risk driving is asked to report incidents by calling 403-328-4444.

The LPS noted that public reports and traffic data analysis help guide enforcement priorities and police deployment.
