Pair charged following gun seizure from stolen vehicle

Two people are facing charges after police recovered an allegedly stolen vehicle containing 10 guns and ammunition from a southside parking lot.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, a member of the Property Crimes Unit spotted the vehicle in a parking lot in the 300 block of Scenic Drive South at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 20. Police allege the vehicle had previously been reported stolen from Claresholm.

Officers are reported to have reviewed CCTV footage and identified a man and woman associated with the vehicle. They were located a short time later and arrested without incident. During a search incidental to the arrests, police said the man was found in possession of meth.

A police search of the vehicle also resulted in the seizure of ammunition and 10 guns. Police said the guns had been stolen during a residential break-in in Claresholm.

A 29-year-old woman from Calgary is facing more than 30 charges, including multiple counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of proceeds of crime.

A 46-year-old man is facing more than 35 weapons- and drug-related charges.

Both accused have been remanded in custody.

The charges have not been proven in court.
