Lethbridge man faces drug trafficking charges following fentanyl seizure

A 29-year-old man is facing drug trafficking charges after police allegedly seized more than 1,000 doses of fentanyl during a vehicle search.

Police said officers responded at about 6:15 p.m. Sept. 1 to a report of people using drugs inside a vehicle parked along Highlands Boulevard.

Police said a man and woman were found inside the vehicle and both were arrested. A second man was later arrested when he allegedly attempted to return to the vehicle.

During a search of the second man, officers seized cocaine and cash.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 110 grams of fentanyl, which police estimated could produce about 1,100 individual doses. Officers also seized nearly 30 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of methamphetamine and more than $1,000 in cash.

Police also seized bear spray, a collapsible baton and property they believe was stolen from a westside business.

The 29-year-old faces three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was remanded in custody following a judicial interim release hearing.

The man and woman initially found inside the vehicle were released without charges.
