New household items to be accepted at Lethbridge County recycling trailers

Starting Thursday, Lethbridge County residents no longer need to sort their recycling at Lethbridge Regional Waste Management Services Commission recycling trailers.

The Commission manages waste and recycling services on behalf of the County, Nobleford, and Picture Butte, including transfer stations and recycling trailers throughout the region.

The change comes from Alberta’s new Extended Producer Responsibility program.

All these items are accepted at recycling trailers:

  • Cardboard and boxboard
  • Paper and newspaper
  • Paper laminate packaging and containers
  • Cartons
  • Plastic containers and packaging
  • Foam packaging
  • Metal and aluminum
  • Aerosol containers
  • Glass containers

Before drop-off, please empty all items, flatten boxes, bag shredded paper, and remove lids and caps.

Garbage, books, wood, hazardous materials containers, batteries, paint cans, and yard waste are not accepted in recycling trailers but can be disposed of at any of the four Commission transfer stations. This service is free for residents of Commission municipalities.

Recycling trailers are located throughout Commission communities. Locations and collection schedules are not changing, with one exception: the Shaughnessy recycling trailer will move from First Street to Shields Street and Highway 25 this month.

Recycling trailers are also at each of the transfer stations.

Recycling trailer locations and schedules, as well as transfer station locations and operating hours are available online.
