The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are celebrating a former student-athlete.
Kimoya Edwards, who starred for the Pronghorns’ track and field team for five years, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Alberta Immigrant Impact Award in the category of Art and Sports.
The program recognizes immigrants in Alberta who have made a difference through their work in the community. Edwards was celebrated on Oct. 2 at a ceremony in Calgary.
Among her accomplishments, Edwards competed in the 60-metre hurdles and helped the women’s team to a top 10 national ranking and a ninth-place finish at the U SPORTS championships. She earned bronze in the 60-metre hurdles at the 2026 U SPORTS championships and finished fourth in the event at the Canada West Championships.
Edwards served as team captain, with Pronghorn Athletics saying she led by example and set a standard of dedication, focus and determination both on and off the track.
Off the field, officials said Edwards demonstrated a “strong commitment to student leadership and advocacy”. She was elected vice-president academic of the U of L Students’ Union twice, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, an Honours Thesis and a Co-op designation.
Additionally, while at the post-secondary, Edwards co-founded ‘Fostering Liberal Arts Research Excellence, which is an undergraduate journal and symposium, as well as ‘Network for Black Women’, a nonprofit organization.
“Her work has focused on amplifying student voices, strengthening the academic experience and creating opportunities for students and emerging leaders,” Pronghorn Athletics stated. “Congratulations to Kimoya on this well-deserved recognition and on the continued impact she is making through athletics, academics and community leadership.”
