Rescue groups step up to help eight dogs in Lethbridge

Eight dogs are receiving care after being taken into the Lethbridge Animal Shelter as part of an animal-welfare investigation.

According to Community Animal Services officials, the small-breed dogs were taken into care after concerns were reported, and local rescue organizations stepped up to help.

Windy City Canine Rescue and the Lethbridge and District Humane Society took in several of the dogs for foster care and adoption, helping provide them with a path to permanent homes.

The dogs were assessed by a veterinarian, and no serious medical conditions were identified, according to Community Animal Services officials. The dogs were also found to have grooming needs that required attention.

As part of the investigation, enforcement officers laid several charges against the owner under the City of Lethbridge’s Animal Care and Control Bylaw.

Windy City Canine Rescue and the Lethbridge and District Humane Society helped provide care and placement for the dogs.
