Alberta reports less than 100 new cases of COVID-19

A slightly slower day across Alberta, compared to days prior, when it comes to the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) reporting 97 new cases since Friday (May 1), bringing the total province-wide to 5,670. Compare that to data from this past week, which noted increases of more than 150 new cases per day.

About 44-percent of Alberta’s cases, 2,534 to be exact, are now considered recovered. In total, 157,517 lab tests have been completed, 3,751 in the last day alone.

In the AHS South Zone, there is a reported increase of 21 cases, bringing the total to 1,054.

The hard hit community of Brooks has 20 news cases for a total of 970, with 143 recovered. Lethbridge remains steady at 17, seven are active and ten are recovered, while Medicine Hat also remains at 31 with one new recovery.

The Calgary Zone also reporting the province’s two new deaths. There have been 94 COVID-19 related deaths in Alberta since the pandemic began here in early March.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
