REVELSTOKE, BC – A woman with a Lethbridge address has been slapped with some hefty fines for allegedly violating public health orders in British Columbia.
RCMP in Revelstoke, B.C. say they were called to a Tim Hortons in that mountain town last weekend, early in the morning on December 6th, after a woman refused multiple times when asked by staff, to put on a face covering in the restaurant.
Like Alberta, B.C. has a province-wide mandatory masking order.
Police went to the business and found the 43 year old woman, still not wearing a mask and refusing to leave.
The officers explained the current COVID-19 regulations including the requirement to wear a mask, however the woman apparently refused to listen. She was then arrested for causing a disturbance in a public place.
RCMP issued her two tickets: One for violating the public health order for not wearing a mask in public place ($230) and another for abusive and belligerent behaviour ($230).
The total, $460 in fines.
Sergeant Chris Dodds told our radio station the woman has been in the Revelstoke area for sometime now, despite her Lethbridge home address. “Officers attended the call to try to reason with the woman, however in the end she refused to comply with police direction and action was taken both criminally and through the issuance of provincial violation tickets.”
The suspect’s name has not been released. She will appear in B.C. court at a later date.
