Multiple fire departments control west Lethbridge fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Four local fire departments have contained a fire near Cottonwood Park in west Lethbridge that was sparked early Sunday morning (July 4).

The fire started at 1:15 a.m. along the 2500 block of 60 Ave W.

Three Lethbridge Fire stations were first on scene around 2:00 a.m. with eight units. Coaldale, Coalhurst and Picture Butte fire departments were also called in for mutual aid.

Multiple buildings and hay bales were involved which sparked a larger grass fire. The blaze was contained just after 5:30 a.m.

One fire fighter was transported to hospital and later released, but no other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

EDIT (July 4 @ 6:45 p.m.): A previous version of the story stated that the fire was near Popson Park. The story has been edited to reflect that it was actually near Cottonwood Park.

Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
