LETHBRIDGE, AB – Eight newly appointed judges will take on their new responsibilities this summer at provincial courts across Alberta.
The provincial government says this is the largest number of judges to be appointed at one time in the last 20 years.
One of those new judges is Grace Auger, who will be sitting in Lethbridge and the southern region starting in August.
Auger, who’s a member of the northern Alberta Bigstone Cree First Nation, earned her bachelor of laws from the University of Calgary in 1995. Most recently, she worked with Legal Aid on the Siksika First Nation, and she’s also worked for several law firms in Treaty 7 Territory.
The seven other judges have been appointed in Red Deer, Wetaskiwin and the central Alberta region, Calgary and Edmonton.
Lawyers with at least 10 years at the bar can apply to become a Provincial Court of Alberta judge.
