EDMONTON, AB – Remaining linen and laundry services at Alberta Health Services will be transitioning to a private provider starting in September.
The rural Calgary zone will be first followed by the South Zone, Central Zone and lastly the North Zone.
K-Bro Linen Systems was awarded a contract back in April to take care of linen services that still remained in-house at AHS.
They were already providing more than two-thirds of linen services.
The transition will impact about 334 full time, part time and causal employees but AHS says it’s working with them and their union to explore other options in accordance with the collective agreement.
AHS has said if it were to try to maintain the existing in-house services, more than $38 million in upgrades would be required to ensure both safety and quality of services. Or, AHS says it would need to invest more than $100 million to build new modern linen systems across the province.
