New regional development agency to “extend reach” into Lethbridge

WINNIPEG, MB – A new Federal Economic Development Agency just for the Prairies is on the way and there will be a service location here in Lethbridge.

Agencies are set up across the country to help drive economic development, investment and more.

The new Prairies Economic Development Canada will focus on Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

New service locations will be established in Lethbridge, Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie over the coming months.

“Entrepreneurs, innovators, institutions, and community leaders across the Prairies have been clear about the need for more federal resources and investments in the economic development of our region. The launch of PrairiesCan and its expanded footprint is a substantial step in the right direction, one that recognizes the unique needs and opportunities in the Prairies, and will help us harness its full potential.” – The Honourable Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative for the Prairies

Pacific Economic Development Canada is also launching to serve British Columbia.

The two new development agencies will replace Western Economic Diversification Canada which has been in place for the past 34 years.
