Online company trying to improve lack of student rental homes in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A call to action is being issued to Lethbridge property owners by a company that’s trying to help college and university students find homes.

Places4Students.com offers online rental listings – in partnership with post-secondaries – to help students find safe, affordable off-campus housing.

However, students trying to move to Lethbridge by the fall say the rental market here is coming up short.

“A lot of landlords, we’ve found, have sold properties from the last year… But then on-campus housing is limited with the changes that the schools have had to make due to COVID-19,” Kim McConnery, Places4Students Marketing Specialist, told our radio station. “So, we’ve seen the need for off-campus [housing] kind of double in the last couple of months.”

McConnery says any kind of housing in any area of Lethbridge can be posted on Places4Students.com, and she’s strongly encouraging local property owners to do so.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
