Angel Tree meets its goal to give gifts to thousands of children in need

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) says the hearts of its Angel Tree volunteers are full after the community rallied to support kids in need this holiday season.

LFS made a plea last week for any last-minute donations when the Angel Tree shelves were essentially empty, but there were still more than 800 kids in need of gift bundles.

Community members graciously answered that call.

“Children brought in their piggy bank savings, companies dug deep and gave with generosity, families came into the Angel Tree room bearing gifts chosen by their children and family members,” said Michelle Gallucci, who’s with LFS. “People offered everything they could, and the result was magical.”

Gallucci notes that they’re down to about the last 60 kids now.

In total, more than 3,200 kids were served this year by the Angel Tree campaign, as well as 99 families through the “Adopt-A-Family” program.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
