It’s a busy time on Lethbridge County roads, with crews continuing maintenance work, and area producers moving large equipment between fields.
So far this season, county crews experienced some preventable accidents and some near misses. Drivers are reminded to drive with caution around any large, slow-moving equipment to reduce collisions.
“We recognize that travelling behind a slow-moving piece of equipment can be frustrating as it adds time to your trip,” says Jeremy Wickson, Director of Public Operations.
“However, it’s important to remember that reckless driving poses a serious threat to the safety of yourself and other motorists. Producers are working long hours tending to the crops and livestock that are so essential to our local economy, and County crews are using equipment to ensure our road network is safe and reliable. We all want to get home safely at the end of the day.”
The county recommends that when drivers are approaching farm or County machines to slow down, keep a safe distance and only pass when safe to do so.
Graders can also have other hazards to be aware of, they can generate dust, making it more difficult to see as well as the possibility of the dust hiding the blade that helps to spread gravel that jets out past the wheels of the grader.
