Lethbridge police say foul play is not suspected in an ongoing investigation into a man’s body found inside a storage shed at a west side McDonalds.
Police were called to the restaurant on University Drive on July 14 around 12:30 p.m. after workers providing remediation services for a fire that occurred earlier in the month found the body.
“The autopsy results indicate the male was inside the shed at the time of the fire. The cause of his death is undetermined, pending toxicology results that are not anticipated for several months. The identity of the male will not be released,” reads a news release from the Lethbridge Police Service.
McDonalds staff reported the fire on July 3 around 11 p.m. and Lethbridge Fire and EMS attended and put it out.
“Staff further reported a past break and enter to the shed after employees had found the lock broken off that morning and advised they were awaiting a lock smith to come and replace it. Fire crews deemed the fire suspicious and notified police as well as the LFES Fire Prevention Bureau,” LPS says. “Due to the location of the victim and high amount of debris in the shed, the body was not located by the fire department during their preliminary investigation.”
Police say the man was a 33-year-old from Lethbridge and there is no evidence to suggest the death is criminal in nature.
LPS says they will be no further information or comment.
