Record meth seizure at southern Alberta border crossing

A massive meth seizure at a southern Alberta border crossing has led to charges against a Calgary man.

The Canada Border Services Agency says on July 28th, officers at Coutts referred a commercial driver for further examination.

While searching his vehicle they found 50 kilograms of methamphetamine packed in 33 bags.

The CBSA says it’s the largest meth seizure they’ve made in southern Alberta, adding the amount equates to 500,000 doses.

CBSA Southern Alberta Director, Guy Rook, says “This enforcement highlights the important role and good work of frontline officers at border crossings, who are part of a larger team working closely with the RCMP to reduce the amount of dangerous drugs on Canadian streets and impact international drug smuggling.”

40 year old Asif Mir of Calgary is charged with importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He made a brief appearance in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Thursday and is due back in three weeks.
