Downtown Park ‘n’ Ride terminal ready to open next week

Construction is quickly winding down on Lethbridge’s new regional Park ‘n’ Ride terminal, which is set to open next Wednesday, August 28.

Lethbridge Transit, Red Arrow and the Highway 3 Connector will all operate out of the new facility along 5 Ave S. It will also provide a comfortable, safe location protected from the weather, as well as other amenities like Breeze Card sales, washrooms and security.

Signage will be posted at downtown bus stops to inform riders of the changes and direct them to the new terminal as of August 28. The City of Lethbridge adds there will be some minor route changes that will have no significant impact on current route times.

Facility Services Manager, Conrad Westerson, says the $19.9-million project took about a year and a half to complete.

Urban Revitalization Manager, Andrew Malcolm, says there are over 200 parking stalls for residents and visitors to use. “There will be some stalls allocated for the regional transportation component… So, if they drive to the facility and are looking to take a bus elsewhere in the region, they’ll be able to use that facility. The remainder of the stalls will be leased out at a monthly rate for users of the downtown.”

A grand opening and free transit day are planned for Friday, September 6.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
