Stephan’s re-trial resumes; closing arguments expected this week

David and Collet Stephan’s re-trial resuming in Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench Monday (Aug. 26) after a two week break, hearing testimony from forensic pathologist Dr. Anny Sauvageau.

The couple is charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection to their toddler son Ezekial’s death in 2012.

Dr. Sauvageau pointed out at the beginning of her testimony that she disagrees with Medical Examiner Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo, who previously gave evidence in the case.

She says while bacterial meningitis is present in the autopsy she does not believe that’s what ultimately caused Ezekial’s death.

The Stephan’s re-trial began in June. Closing arguments are expected later this week.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
