A Canadian-made docu-drama premieres in Lethbridge May 5. “Gino: A Child of War” is a story of a five-year-old orphan, whose life was saved by Canadian soldiers in 1944 Italy, during the Second World War.
The story tells how soldiers fed the boy and nurtured him back to health, as he lived with soldiers for 10 months, which helped turn the boy’s life around and gave him hope and a reason to live.
Glenn Miller, president of the Lethbridge United Services Institute, says it’s great to be able to present the docu-drama to the Lethbridge Italian community and to southern Alberta residents.
“This is a unique experience. I’ve had a chance to see the movie and it’s an important piece of Canadian history. We talk about World War I and World War II battles, but this puts more of a human face on the conditions soldiers and civilian population faced,” explains Miller.
After the screening, Miller adds, there will be a unique experience and an opportunity for a Q & A session with those who created the documentary and did the research.
The movie is showing at the Movie Mill at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 from the Lethbridge Legion.
