UPDATE: Fire advisory in place for Lethbridge region

UPDATE: A Fire Advisory has also been issued by Lethbridge County. According to the municipality as of Monday, April 22nd, the risk of a wildfire starting had increased because of the warm and windy conditions. Approved fire permits are still valid under the advisory but the county is issuing a reminder that no burning can be done when wind speeds are over 25 kilometres per hour.

Warm and dry conditions have resulted in a fire advisory being issued for all Lethbridge parks in the River Valley area.

According to Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, the advisory is in place to inform the public of current wildfire risks in “our River Valley parks.”

As of Monday, April 22nd along with the city’s advisory, the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard shows the Town of Taber and M.D. of Pincher Creek including the Town of Pincher Creek and the Piikiani First Nation are also under advisories.

While these advisories are in place smokers are being urged to properly dispose of their butts and ashes. Recreational fires are allowed in fire pits provided in parks and propane-fueled cooking appliances are also permitted.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services reports they will be monitoring the fire risk conditions and make changes as necessary. It is being advised that if conditions worsen the advisory could be bumped up to a restriction or even a fire ban.
