Lethbridge Pride Fest Society celebrates 16th season

Lethbridge Pride Fest Society has spent June celebrating their 16th annual pride month with a plethora of activities.

Throughout June the organization has taken part in several activities and events such as Reading with Royalty at the Lethbridge Public Library and performances at the 6th Street Block Party. On Monday, community members and the Pride Fest Board raised the pride flag at Lethbridge City Hall. Pride Fest President Lane Sterr says being able to have any of these events is extremely important because creating these safe spaces for some is a lifeline.

“Some of the progress has been hard progress, taking one step forward every day,” Sterr says.

RELATED STORY: Pride Parade road closures and detours for Saturday

Over the weekend there are still several pride events on the docket. The annual pride parade is happening on Saturday, June 22nd near Galt Gardens. The annual parade kicks off at 11 am and will then be followed by the 16th annual Pride in the Park event at 12 p.m.

“All day in the park we are celebrating pride with marketplace vendors, a family zone, entertainers, musicians, performers, just a whole gaggle of things actually.”

Sterr adds that before the parade kicks off there is the pre-parade breakfast happening at Chef Stella’s ahead of Saturday’s events. As well the 16th annual Pride Dance will be happening at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association starting at 8 p.m.
